How to clean plastic panels in the kitchen, bathroom or other rooms? It all depends on the type of contamination and on the features of the panels themselves. In this material we will deal with both questions.
What kind of plastic panels are there?
Plastic panels as a finishing material are actively used for the bathroom and kitchen, and this is quite justified.
Plastic panels have a long list of positive properties: they are hydrophobic, wear-resistant and light-resistant, strong enough and durable. And also look aesthetically pleasing enough and are inexpensive. And, since they are present in the homes of many Ukrainians, the question of how to clean them is more than relevant.
Before you start washing plastic panels, you need to determine what type you have (glossy or matte).
Glossy plastic panels are covered with a laminating layer, unlike matte ones. There are pros and cons to both. Laminating layer of lacquer protects the surface from dirt, it becomes resistant to abrasives, and therefore glossy surfaces are easier to clean.
But for cleaning matte surfaces you need to use non-aggressive chemistry and carefully choose the inventory, so that the surface is not scratched. The best suited vacuum cleaner and dry microfiber.

Types of contaminants and specifics of their control
The most common types of dirt that form on plastic panels are as follows:
- grease buildup;
- rust;
- lime scale;
- water stains;
- soap marks;
- mold, fungus;
- dust.
Before cleaning, it is necessary to free the working space as much as possible, remove all objects that may interfere with the process. It is recommended to use personal protective equipment – a mask and gloves.
To wash PVC panels, use warm water, but not hot (optimally – 40-45 degrees). If you are using a detergent for the first time, first test it on a small area to see if it will damage the surface.
General rules for cleaning plastic panels:
- Use cleaning agents with fine abrasive particles, or better yet, without them at all. They can scratch the top layer, and moisture will damage the surface, because of which mold can develop;
- use soft cloths and sponges, and never iron brushes or rubbers;
- wash plastic panels often enough, at least once every four weeks. In this way you will not allow the appearance of dried stains;
- after washing, rinse the panels with water and then wipe them dry with a cloth to avoid streaks.
How to clean plastic panels?
There is a huge selection of detergents and cleaners for washing plastic panels in stores today. When choosing a means, remember about abrasives, and try to buy a means without them, it is best to buy a gel.
Properly selected gel will help to cope with the most difficult stains, but if for some reason you do not want to use store chemistry – you can cope with home remedies. Those that are sure to be at hand at the hostess:
- Soap solution with high concentration. For 1 liter of water you will need 50-70 milliliters of dishwashing detergent and 1 bar of laundry soap grated;
- Soda paste. It is prepared from just two ingredients: baking soda and water. In the soda add water little by little until you get the necessary concentration, you can add 20 grams of starch. You cannot rub the surface with baking soda paste, only apply it and wash it off – it is quite abrasive;
- Solution of ammonia: 20 milliliters per liter of water;
- Vinegar solution – a mixture of vinegar and water, in a ratio of 1:3;
- Alcohol solution – in the same ratios as vinegar. This is a great way to get rid of lime mortar, but first it is worth checking on a small area, whether the alcohol will not damage the material;
- Sulfur gruel. An effective remedy, but quite troublesome in preparation. You need to clean sulfur from ordinary matches, mix with water to the consistency of a porridge, apply to the area to be cleaned and leave it for 15 minutes.
So, plastic panels – a universal and very convenient material, quite unpretentious in maintenance. But provided that you wash it correctly and regularly.
