MARBLE FLOOR CARE: WHAT YOU CAN AND CANNOT DO
Because of its porous structure, marble requires special care. In order to maintain its shine and prevent deformation and wear, the surface should be cleaned regularly to remove dirt from the marble floor, which can fill seams and microcracks.
What to do with stains?
To maintain the shine of a marble floor and prevent frequent sanding, it is recommended to use special detergents, perform regular preventive cleaning and wash fresh stains immediately.
- Organic stains. In case of spills of alcohol, coffee or ketchup, remove the traces immediately as they may be absorbed into the material and change its color. Fresh dirt can be removed with a soft white cloth soaked in peroxide and ammonia.
- Traces of rust. Manufacturers of household chemicals have created special compositions for removing such contaminants, which effectively react only with rust and do not damage the glossy surface of marble. It is more difficult to remove too ingrained traces.
- Yellowed old stains. They appear from regular exposure to ultraviolet light. To eliminate the defect, the stone should be polished. But before that, you can try to fight with the help of ordinary bath soap. To do this, apply the foam to the marble yellowed surface, leave it for 5-6 hours. Then wash off the solution.
How to restore the shine of marble
To give the marble floor a fresh shine and mirror effect, it is recommended to use special polishes based on natural wax. A proven option of means “from the people” is beeswax, which also helps to give a mirror-like effect and protects against mechanical damage.
Another method is rubbing the marble floor with turpentine, but you should remember about precautions, as turpentine emits harmful vapors for health compounds. All these methods of polishing can be used, but for the best result it is recommended to use special pastes and powders for stone care.
How not to clean marble and why
It is not recommended to clean marble with conventional detergents containing abrasive particles, which can destroy the structure of the mineral and leave streaks. You should also refuse means for cleaning ceramics and tiles, as they can spoil the surface of marble.
It is not worth testing on such a stone not proven folk remedies (lemon, Coca-Cola). When using acetone, hydrogen peroxide, vinegar and other chemical agents should be careful, as improper use can harm the material and your health.
